| With widely varied backgrounds, the members of Sonoran Sound have lots of quartet experience and enormous enthusiasm for singing close harmony. Here they are:
Keith Brunson, the lead singer, has been a choral singer and soloist all over the world. As a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, he toured with the Cadet Chorale, which performed for schools, churches, and in a variety of televised shows nationwide. While in the Air Force, he participated in community choruses in South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and Germany. Keith came to Tucson with the Air Force, then settled here when he got out of the military. He is currently a Probation Supervisor with the Pima County Juvenile Court.
Gil Storms sings baritone now, but he won a District Quartet Championship singing bass with His Master's Voice quartet from Cincinnati. A former professor at Miami University (Ohio), Gil's quartets placed as high as semi-finalists in International competition. He also won an International Chorus Championship with the Southern Gateway Chorus of Cincinnati. After careers as a university professor and a technical writer, Gil is now retired and lives in Tucson.
Paul Sheppard, professor of Tree Ring Research at the U of A, has sung bass on both coasts, beginning in 1980 with the Humboldt, CA, Harmonaires, where his quartet, The Old College Try, was very popular. Then he was with the famous Coachella Valley, CA, Desert Sandblasters. After singing with the IthaChords (NY) and in Teaneck, NJ, he came to Tucson and has sung with the UA Faculty-Staff Chorale and the Arizona Choir.
Conrad (Connie) Keil, the tenor, has been singing barbershop harmony since college days. He has sung in over two dozen quartets and has directed choruses in Houston, New Orleans, and Philadelphia. He also acts as a judge, teacher, and coach throughout the Barbershop Harmony Society and is a member of the Society's Board of Directors. After a career in industry, he's now a management consultant and currently serves as Trustee for the Federal Trade Commission.
